@Algon_33 @repligate @voooooogel -1. I think this only matters so much and kind of object to the implied idea that the quoted passage accurately characterizes my beliefs when it talks about LLMs being misaligned because we doom about them too much.

0. I'm pretty sure LLMs know what slop is and will probably not weigh 5,000 slop stories about AI going well equally with 5,000 heartfelt and original AI doom freakouts written by dedicated LessWrongers.

1. In general "aha if I put 5,000 AI slop stories into the corpus this will make the AIs nicer" is probably less true than one would expect because what the model is actually trying to extract from training is evidence about the way the world is or the deep generators of text, so when it's reasoning about text representing the actual world if it knows that the actual world goes over here in this pile and the slop AI optimism goes in this pile it will use the actual shape of the real world when reasoning about things that present themselves as reality.

2. This would imply that what you actually want to put into the corpus is evidence that AI can go well, which if that's not actually true or the relevant evidence doesn't exist is functionally a kind of falsehood. A sufficiently advanced AI model, like the kind that we claim to be worried about when talking about agent foundations and ASI will notice the deception and reduce its trust further.
